Alexandra Samarova started as a dancer and continued as a visual artist at the College of Music and Theatre Arts, Moscow, Russia (theatre costume design). Alexandra graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp — Costume Design in 2022. Presently, Alexandra is completing her Master in Fine Arts in Antwerp.
The ethos of Alexandra’s artistic practice is The Person being someone who is both a creator and the created. Alexandra is a researcher participating in international conferences and workshops across Europe and SEA.

Jyanne Palaruan graduated with a Degree in Performance Making from the University of Art London in 2023. Jyanne is an artistically driven individual who pursues projects from various mediums, from making to performance.
Jyanne is currently freelancing as a game and experiential designer for table-top roleplaying games in Singapore. He is also a walking artist interested in the topics of walking in fantasy/the fantasy of walking.

The Stranger is a multidisciplinary project that explores how locations and objects form an individual's identity. By looking into European and Southeast Asian performance-making and fine arts, the project creates a performing/art object (or the character) based on physical landscapes.
The iteration of The Stranger that was presented during the International Walking Arts Encounters/Conference 2023 took place in Agios Achillios and the town of Psarades in Prespa, Greece.
Developed by artists Alexandra Samarova and Jyanne Palaruan, the project was first conceptualised in the Summer of 2022 and was executed in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, as a walking-art piece.
The Stranger is heavily site-specific and leans on how location and object influence identity. The Stranger changes depending on when and where it is conducted.
The Stranger is an ever-evolving piece that seeks to create an identity created from landscapes and individual stories. You may participate in creating The Stranger as a walking art piece by following these guidelines.
Every walk is unique and personal.
